WASHINGTON — The preliminary national average price received by farmers for all wheat in September was $8.49 per bu, up 45c from $8.04 in August and up 95c from $7.54 in September 2011, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Agricultural Prices report.
The average price paid for winter wheat in September was $8.51 per bu, up 59c from $7.92 in August and up $1.51 from $7 in September 2011. The average price paid for durum was $7.84 per bu, up 14c from $7.70 in August but down $2.96 from $10.80 in September 2011. Spring wheat other than durum averaged $8.52, up 25c from $8.27 in August and up 43c from $8.09 in September 2011.
The average price paid for all rice was $14.60 a cwt, up 20c from $14.40 in August 2012 and in September 2011.
The September index of prices received by farmers for food grains was 273 compared with the 1990-92 base of 100, up 4% from 263 in August and up 11% from 246 in September 2011.
The August index of feed grains was 309, down 1% from 312 in August but up 14% from 271 in September 2011.
The average price paid to farmers for corn was $7.35 a bu, down 28c from $7.63 in August but up 97c from $6.38 in September 2011. Farmers received an average of $12.20 a cwt for grain sorghum in September, up 90c from $11.30 in August and up $1.70 from $10.50 in September 2011. The average price paid for oats in September was $3.75 a bu, down 6c from $3.81 in August but up 8c from $3.67 in September 2011.
The index of September prices received for oilseeds was 270, down 6% from 287 in August but up 34% from 202 in September 2011.
Farmers received an average of $16.30 a bu for soybeans in September, up 10c from $16.20 in August and up $4.10 from $12.20 in September 2011.
The September index for dairy products was 146, up 5% from 139 in August but down 10% from 162 in September 2011. The average price paid for all milk in September was $18.40 a cwt, up 70c from $17.70 in August but down $1.90 from $20.30 in September 2011.
The September poultry and egg index was 168, up 1% from 166 in August and up 12% from 150 in September 2011. The average price paid to farmers for all eggs in September was $1.23 a dozen, up 10c from $1.13 in August and up 21c from $1.02 in September 2011.
