A.D.A.: Many children miss out on breakfast

11.12.2010

CHICAGO — New findings from the American Dietetic Association suggest the meal U.S. children are most likely to skip is breakfast. The A.D.A. said breakfast is eaten only sometimes, once in a while or never by 37% of African-American children, 24% of Hispanic children and 22% of Caucasian children. On the other end of the spectrum, 58% of Caucasian children, 58% of Hispanic children and 41% of African-American children said they eat breakfast daily. The study also noted less than 25% of parents and their children correctly identified grains as the food group from which most servings should be consumed daily, with the most common answer being vegetables.
