QUINCY, MASS. — Bay State Milling Co. has introduced GrainEssentials multi-grain blends in the three brand names of Flavorful 5 Grain, Savory 7 Grain and Nourishing 9 Grain. Each contains a combination of assorted grains in the forms of flours, flakes, cuts and cracks for adding flavor, texture, visual appeal and nutrient density to a variety of grain-based foods.
The blends were created and assessed at the Rothwell GrainEssentials Center in Quincy. Each blend was tested in a range of baked foods. They are available in pallets of 50-lb bags to food manufacturers, commercial bakers, and food service and bakery distributors.
The introductions come after Bay State Milling in August acquired T.J. Harkins Basic Commodity Brokers, a supplier of sesame and edible seeds, sweet spices, ancient grains and specialty grain flours.
“The recent acquisition of T.J. Harkins combined with the upgrade of our milling and blending technologies allows us to provide a comprehensive portfolio of cost-effective, ingredient solutions for grain-based food manufacturers,” said Colleen Zammer, director of product marketing for Quincy-based Bay State Milling.
