KANSAS CITY — The November 2012 trading volume in wheat futures at the Kansas City Board of Trade set a new record for the month, according to the K.C.B.T.
November 2012 volume in wheat futures totaled 633,396 contracts up 91% from the October trading volume at 331,019 contracts and up 43% from 442,103 contracts traded in November 2011. The previous record November wheat futures trading volume was set in 2010 at 602,081 contracts.
Year-to-date volume in K.C. wheat futures was 4,994,201 contracts, down 18% from January-November 2011 at 6,089,068 contracts.
K.C. wheat options volume in November 2012 was 10,857 contracts, up 16% from 9,370 contracts in November 2011. Wheat options volume to date totaled 87,640 contracts, down 63% from 235,870 contracts in January-November 2011.
K.C. wheat futures open interest on Nov. 30, 2012, was 166,733 contracts, up 24% from 134,399 contracts a year earlier. The Oct. 31, 2012, open interest was 164,691 contracts.
