WASHINGTON — Butter, fruit, vegetable, poultry and total red meat stocks on Dec. 31, 2012, were higher than year-earlier levels, but egg stocks were lower and cheese stocks were slightly lower, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Cold Storage report.
Frozen turkey stocks totaled 295,104,000 lbs, up 16% from November 2012 and up 40% from December 2011, the U.S.D.A. said. Total chicken stocks were 679,284,000 lbs, up 1% from November and up 8% from December 2011. Total frozen poultry stocks were 976,751,000 lbs, up 5% from November and up 16% from December 2011.
Natural cheese stocks on Dec. 31 were 987,852,000 lbs, up 5% from November but down slightly from December 2011. Butter stocks totaled 152,853,000 lbs, up 20% from November 2012 and up 43% from December 2011, the U.S.D.A. said.
Frozen red meat supplies totaled 1,046,887,000 lbs, up 2% from November and up 9% from December 2011. Frozen pork stocks were 554,413,000 lbs, down 1% from November but up 14% from December 2011. Beef stocks in freezers totaled 465,492,000 lbs, up 5% from November and up 2% from December 2011.
Total frozen egg stocks on Dec. 31 were 27,190,000 lbs, down slightly from November and down 25% from December 2011. Stocks of egg whites were 2,761,000 lbs, down slightly from November and down 15% from December 2011. Frozen egg yolk stocks were 2,144,000 lbs, up 6% from November and up 10% from December 2011. Whole and mixed egg stocks were 8,184,000 lbs, down slightly from November and down 20% from December 2011. Unclassified egg stocks were 14,101,000 lbs, down 1% from November and down 33% from December 2011.
Stocks of frozen orange juice concentrate were 695,489,000 lbs, up 16% from November and up 10% from December 2011. Stocks of all types of frozen fruit on Dec. 31 were 1,247,625,000 lbs, down 7% from November but up 5% from December 2011.
Stocks of frozen french fries were 908,526,000 lbs, down 2% from November but up 13% from December 2011. Total vegetable stocks (excluding potatoes) on Dec. 31 were 2,350,478,000 lbs, down 6% from November but up 2% from December 2011, the U.S.D.A. said.
