ROANOKE, VA. — A fire early Oct. 22 caused about $50,000 in damages to equipment and $25,000 to production time at a Maple Leaf Bakery, Inc. facility, according to the Roanoke Fire Department.
The fire department said that when crews arrived at 4:50 a.m. EST they found smoke inside the building and found a fire in the insulation of one of the large ovens inside that bakes bread. Crews extinguished the fire and evacuated the smoke from the building.
Six civilians were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene. No one was transported to the hospital, the fire department said.
Opened in 1998, the Maple Leaf Bakery facility in Roanoke is valued at approximately $1.5 million.
