INDIANAPOLIS — Dallas-based Specialty Bakery L.L.C. plans to build a 227,000-square-foot production and distribution facility within the Purdue Research Park near Indianapolis International Airport, according to the Indianapolis Business Journal. The facility would make frozen bread, dough and cookies for distribution to quick-service restaurants, in-store bakeries and food service distributors.

According to the Indianapolis Business Journal, the company plans to spend about $24.3 million to build the plant, plus another $54 million for manufacturing, I.T. and research and development equipment. The $78.3 million project is expected to create 241 jobs in the Indianapolis area by 2018.

The project was necessitated by a 15-year contract that Specialty Bakery has secured with a global quick-service restaurant, the Indianapolis Business Journal said.

For the project, Specialty Bakery has requested tax breaks, including a 10-year tax abatement on the equipment that would save about $3.4 million and a 10-year abatement on the real estate improvements that would save about $2.5 million. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Development Commission was to consider the tax break requests at a meeting scheduled for Nov. 6, the Indianapolis Business Journal said.
