PURCHASE, N.Y. — Frito-Lay, a business unit of PepsiCo, Inc., is testing three flavors of Lay’s potato chips and letting voters decide which variety stays on shelves.
Flavors include chicken and waffles, cheesy garlic bread and Sriracha hot sauce. All three varieties will be available at retailers nationwide starting next week. Consumers may vote via text message and on the company’s Facebook and Twitter pages through May to determine the winning flavor. If the other flavors sell well, they may remain in stores, too, the company said.
The three flavors were among 3.8 million ideas submitted by consumers during the company’s on-line “Do Us a Flavor” campaign. Cash prizes will be awarded for the winning submissions.
