WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread and whole wheat bread both fell in February, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.
The national average retail price of white pan bread was 141.1c, down 1.1c per lb from January and down 3.1c from February 2012. The decrease followed a decrease of 1.4c per lb in January. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in February fell in two regions — down 4.6c in the Northeast and down 3.1c in the South — and rose in two regions — up 2.9c in the West and up 1.5c in the Midwest.
At 202.5c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was down 5.3c per lb from January and down 1.9c per lb from February 2012.
The national average price of family flour in February was 52.4c per lb, unchanged from January but down 0.4c from February 2012.
The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in February was 134.8c per lb, up 7.2c from January and up 3.7c from February 2012. Chocolate chip cookies were 362.5c per lb, down 10.3c from January and down 15.3c from February 2012. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 70.8c per lb, down 0.7c from January and down 1c from February 2012.
