WASHINGTON — U.S. 2013 all wheat production was estimated at 2,127,520,000 bus, up 13,435,000 bus, or less than 1%, from 2,114,085,000 bus forecast in August but down 138,507,000 bus, or 6%, from 2,266,027,000 bus in 2012, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its Sept. 30 Small Grains 2013 Summary.
The U.S.D.A. all wheat production number was above the average pre-report trade estimate of 2,121 million bus.
All wheat yield was estimated at a record 47.1 bus an acre, up 0.9 bus from 46.2 bus in August and up 0.8 bus from 46.3 bus an acre in 2012.
Production of spring wheat other than durum was estimated at 531,739,000 bus, up 20,459,000 bus, or 4%, from 511,280,000 bus forecast in August, but down 10,220,000 bus, or 2%, from 541,959,000 bus a year ago. The average yield was estimated at a record 46.8 bus an acre, up 4 bus from 42.8 bus in August and up 1.8 bus from 45 bus in 2012.
Production of hard red spring wheat was estimated at 488,604,000 bus, up 13,781,000 bus, or 3%, from 474,823,000 bus in August but down 15,916,000 bus, or 3%, from 504,520,000 bus in 2012. Hard white spring wheat production was estimated at 10,502,000 bus, up 1,528,000 bus, or 17%, from 8,974,000 bus forecast in August and up 2,037,000 bus, or 24%, from 8,465,000 bus in 2012. Soft white spring wheat outturn was estimated at 32,633,000 bus, up 5,150,000 bus, or 19%, from 27,483,000 bus forecast in August and up 3,659,000 bus, or 13%, from 28,974,000 bus in 2012.
The U.S.D.A. other spring wheat number was above the average trade expectation of 509 million bus.
Durum outturn was estimated at 61,528,000 bus, up 1,328,000 bus, or 2%, from 60,200,000 bus forecast in August but down 21,268,000 bus, or 26%, from 82,796,000 bus in 2012. Durum average yield was estimated at 43.3 bus an acre, up 3.2 bus from 40.1 bus an acre in August and up 4.5 bus from 38.8 bus an acre in 2012.
The U.S.D.A. durum number was above the average trade expectation of 60 million bus.
The U.S.D.A. estimated winter wheat production at 1,534,253,000 bus, down 8,352,000 bus from 1,542,605,000 bus in August and down 107,019,000 bus, or 7%, from 1,641,272,000 bus in 2012. The U.S.D.A. estimated winter wheat yield at 47.4 bus an acre, down 0.4 bus from 47.8 bus in August but up 0.1 bus from 47.3 bus an acre in 2012. The 2013 average winter wheat yield was the second highest on record, below only 47.8 bus an acre in 1999, the U.S.D.A. said.
Hard red winter wheat production was estimated at 744,029,000 bus, down 47,335,000 bus, or 6%, from 791,364,000 bus in August and down 255,976,000 bus, or 26%, from 1,000,005,000 bus in 2012. Soft red winter production was estimated at 564,907,000 bus, up 22,762,000 bus, or 4%, from 542,145,000 bus in August and up 145,106,000 bus, or 35%, from 419,801,000 bus in 2012. Hard white winter wheat outturn was estimated at 11,154,000 bus, down 706,000 bus, or 6%, from 11,860,000 bus forecast in August and down 2,017,000 bus, or 15%, from 13,171,000 bus a year earlier. Soft white winter wheat production was estimated at 214,163,000 bus, up 16,927,000 bus, or 9%, from 197,236,000 bus in August and up 5,868,000 bus, or 3%, from 208,295,000 bus in 2012.
The U.S.D.A. hard red winter wheat number was below the average trade expectation of 792 million bus and the soft red winter number was above the average trade estimate of 545 million bus.
Oats production was estimated at 66,025,000 bus, down 9,185,000 bus, or 12%, from 75,210,000 bus forecast in August but up 2,001,000, or 3%, from 64,024,000 bus in 2012. The 2013 oats crop was the third lowest on record.
The 2013 barley crop was estimated at 215,078,000 bus, down 2,467,000 bus, or 1%, from 217,545,000 bus in August and down 5,206,000 bus, or 2%, from 220,284,000 bus last year.
Rye production was estimated at 7,669,000 bus, up 725,000 bus, or 10%, from 6,944,000 bus in 2012. The average yield was estimated at 27.6 bus an acre, down 0.4 bus from 28 bus last year.
