CLEVELAND, TENN. — Richard Lugar, the former U.S. Senator from Indiana, will bring his perspective on Washington and world affairs when he keynotes the 46th annual convention of the Cookie & Cracker Bakers Association (CASBA), to be held Feb. 15-17 at St. Augustine, Fla.
Mr. Lugar now heads The Lugar Center, Washington, a non-profit organization committed to advancing positive solutions and fostering bipartisan dialog on national and global issues.
CASBA also plans to honor Tom Lugar, Richard’s brother, for his long service to the industry group.
“Tom became a member and treasurer of the Southern Cookie Manufacturers’ Association in the late 1950s,” explained Kevin M. Boyle, CASBA chairman and president, Schulze and Burch Biscuit Co., Chicago. That organization later became CASBA, and Mr. Lugar continues in the role of treasurer.
“For almost 60 years, Tom spent his career in our industry leading the T.L. Green Co., which was founded by his grandfather over 110 years ago,” Mr. Boyle said. T.L. Green merged with Reading Bakery Systems in 2001.
Describing the keynote presentation by Richard Lugar, Mr. Boyle observed, “He will provide insight into the changing political climate in Washington as well as his global perspective on world affairs.”
