ARLINGTON, VA. — The board of directors of the U.S. Wheat Associates recently unveiled its new slate of directors at its annual meeting held Feb. 1 in Washington.

Roy Motter, managing partner of Spruce Farms, L.L.C., Brawley, Calif., was named chairman. Mr. Motter previously was vice-chairman of U.S. Wheat and has been a member of the California Wheat Commission since 1998.

Mr. Motter succeeds Dan Hughes, who now becomes past chairman. Mr. Hughes is a third-generation wheat farmer in the southwest corner of Nebraska. He is a commissioner of the Nebraska Wheat Board and was chairman of the organization from 2008 to 2010.

Brian O’Toole of Crystal, N.D., was elevated to vice-chairman from secretary-treasurer. Mr. O’Toole is a member of the North Dakota Wheat Commission, the Wheat Marketing Center in Portland, Ore., and chairman of the SBARE Wheat Granting Committee.

Newly elected to the board was Jason Scott of Stevensville, Md. Mr. Scott was named secretary-treasurer. He is at least a sixth-generation wheat farmer from the Eastern Shore of Maryland, where he manages his family’s soft red winter wheat, row crop and vegetable operation. He also owns and operates a Pioneer Hi-Bred seed dealership with his father. He has been a member of the Maryland Grain Producers Utilization Board since 2003 and was president from 2005 to 2007.

The new U.S. Wheat officers officially begin their one-year terms at the organization’s annual meeting in June 2014 in Omaha.

U.S. Wheat is the industry’s market development organization working in more than 100 countries. The group’s activities are made possible through producer checkoff dollars managed by 19 state wheat commissions and cost-share funding provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service.
