The average price paid for white pan bread decreased in June while the price for whole wheat bread increased, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.
The national average retail price of white pan bread was 140c, down 0.1c per lb from May and down 3.9c from June 2013. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in June increased in three regions — up 2.4c in the Northeast, up 2.3c in the South and up 0.6c in the Midwest — and fell in one region — down 5.8c in the West.
At 202.7c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was up 1.1c per lb from May but down 3c per lb from June 2013.
The national average price of family flour in June was 53.2c per lb, unchanged from May but down 0.1c from June 2013.
The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in June was 126.7c per lb, down 3.4c from May and down 3.7c from June 2013. Chocolate chip cookies were 332.4c per lb, down 6.7c from May and down 39.7 from June 2013. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 74.2c per lb, up 0.3c from May and up 1.9c from June 2013.
