WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread rose in July while the price for whole wheat bread fell, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.
The national average retail price of white pan bread was 141.3c, up 1.3c per lb from June but down 2.1c from July 2013. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in July increased in two regions — up 7.2c in the West and up 0.4c in the South — and fell in two regions — down 2.3c in the Midwest and down 1.3c in the Northeast.
At 202c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was down 0.7c per lb from June and down 3.6c per lb from July 2013.
The national average price of family flour in July was 52.7c per lb, down 0.5c from June and down 0.3c from July 2013.
The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in July was 132.4c per lb, up 5.7c from June and up 1c from July 2013. Chocolate chip cookies were 345.6c per lb, up 13.2c from June but down 17.4 from July 2013. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 75.8c per lb, up 1.6c from June and up 3.7c from July 2013.
