INDIANAPOLIS — Gang Guo, director of wheat research and quality for Ardent Mills, is the scheduled leadoff speaker at the inaugural joint meeting of the Soft Wheat Quality Laboratory Research Review and the Soft Wheat Quality Council.
The meeting will be held March 3-4 at the Crown Plaza – Indianapolis Airport. A decision to meet jointly followed a discussion last spring at the Soft Wheat Laboratory of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service in Wooster, Ohio.
Mr. Guo and other invited presenters will speak the afternoon of March 3. During the morning, Soft Wheat Quality Laboratory research presentations will be offered on the effects of wheat grain storage on falling number; high ratio baking test of non-chlorinated flour; steam bread making quality of soft red wheat and endosperm separation from brand versus flour yield.
In his talk, Mr. Guo will discuss the correlation between whole wheat bread consumer hedonic scores and quantitative descriptive analysis results.
Andrew Ross, a professor at Oregon State University, will offer a research update titled, “Validation and exploration, from falling number to oxidative gelation and beyond.”
Stephen Delwiche, a scientist/agriculture engineer at the A.R.S., will discuss “Hyperspectral imaging for grain quality/imaging of single seeds/identifying the source of variation in the falling number procedure.”
Following a break, Mohsen Mohammadi, a faculty member at Purdue University, will discuss “Challenges and opportunities in breeding high yielding and disease resistant wheat varieties with superior quality.”
