ZURICH, SWITZERLAND — Barry Callebaut has engaged in three initiatives to strengthen its efforts in developing sustainable global supply chains and agriculture.
First, the Zurich-based manufacturer of chocolate and cocoa products will engage in the Sustainable Agriculture Initiative Platform in three ways: the SAI Platform’s sugar project, its dairy working group and the farm sustainability assessment IT work stream. The SAI Platform brings together more than 75 international companies in the food and drink sector, and it develops recommendations and tools in order to mainstream sustainability in agriculture.
Also, Barry Callebaut became a member of AIM-Progress, a forum of consumer goods manufacturers assembled to enable and promote responsible sourcing practices and sustainable supply chains. Finally, Barry Callebaut joined the Global Social Compliance Programme, which seeks to build comparability and transparency between existing social and environmental compliance systems.
“Becoming a member of SAI Platform and AIM-Progress is an important step for us in working toward sustainability in our supply chains, particularly in sugar and dairy products,” said Massimo Selmo, head of global sourcing for Barry Callebaut. “We have also reinforced our sourcing team to foster this work.”
