MODESTO, CALIF. – The Almond Board of California has committed $2.5 million to independent, third-party research into farming practices. Among the 56 projects approved for funding are 13 water projects and 9 honey bee health projects.
Funding also will go to continued support for the California Almond Sustainability Program, which is a self-assessment and education program, and to research into other issues like air quality, pest and disease management.
“Today’s investment will fuel the next round of innovation to ensure we continue to grow healthy, nutritious food while improving water efficiency and continue to protect our pollination partners,” said Richard Waycott, chief executive officer of the board.
