ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New Mexico Food Distributors, a prepared food production company founded in 1987 that produces ready-to-eat New Mexican food items both for retail and food service, is set to acquire a former jet factory and turn it into a tortilla production plant, according to an article in the Albuquerque Journal.
The 52,856-square-foot assembly plant would double the company’s real estate footprint for its tortilla-making division. Currently, New Mexico Food Distributors makes tortillas at a 50,250-square-foot building in Albuquerque, with plans to expand the plant by approximately 15,000 square feet, according to the Albuquerque Journal.
The article indicated the new plant is expected to be equipped and ready for production in about 60 days, employing 38 to 40 people in its initial ramp-up.
New Mexico Food Distributors makes tortillas under the Rio Grande Tortilla Factory brand and operates restaurants under several banners, including The Authentic New Mexican, Fiesta’s Mexican Restaurant Cantina, Little Anita’s Mexican Foods and Los Cuates New Mexican Food.
