WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread decreased 2c per lb in July while the price of whole wheat bread increased 0.6c in the month, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.

The national average retail price of white pan bread was 144.7c, down 2c per lb from June but up 3.4c from July 2014. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in July increased in two regions — up 3.1c in the Midwest and up 0.9c in the South — and was down in two regions — down 7.6c in the West and down 6.2c in the Northeast.

At 196.3c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was up 0.6c per lb from June but down 5.7c per lb from July 2014.

The national average price of family flour in July was 51.5c per lb, down 0.4c from June and down 1.2c from July 2014.

The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in July was 132.5c per lb, down 3.5c from June but up 0.1c from July 2014. Chocolate chip cookies were 330.5c per lb, up 1.9c from June but down 15.1c from July 2014. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 67.3c per lb, down 1.8c from June and down 8.5c from July 2014.
