WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread decreased in February, while the price for whole wheat bread increased, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.
The national average retail price of white pan bread was 140.7c, down 1.8c per lb from January and down 2.8c from February 2015. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in February decreased in all four regions — down 4.3c in the West, down 1.4c in the Northeast, down 1.3c in the Midwest and down 0.7c in the South.
At 194.7c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was up 0.4c per lb from January but down 7.7c per lb from February 2015.
The national average price of family flour in February was 52.2c per lb, unchanged from January but down 0.3c from February 2015.
The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in February was 130.9c per lb, up 4.4c from January but down 1c from February 2015. Chocolate chip cookies were 328.9c per lb, down 4.4c from January and down 18.8c from February 2015. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 70.7c per lb, down 0.2c from January but up 1.8c from February 2015.
