KANSAS CITY — John W. Glover, former vice-president of engineering at Interstate Bakeries Corp., died May 17. He was 91 years old.
Mr. Glover worked for I.B.C. from 1946 until 1989, beginning his career with the company as a mechanic at the company’s plant in Los Angeles. In 1962 he was promoted to director of engineering at I.B.C.’s general office in Kansas City, and in 1968 he was promoted to vice-president of engineering.
During his time at I.B.C., Mr. Glover supervised the construction of new cake plants in Emporia, Kas., and Columbus, Ga., as well as new bread plants in Glendale, Calif.; Billings, Mont.; Boise, Idaho, and others. He also developed programs to modernize and reduce costs in the company’s plants.
Following his retirement in 1989, Mr. Glover started consulting on bakery plant operations and planned and coordinated five engineering conferences at the American Institute of Baking in Manhattan.
He was a member of the American Society of Bakery Engineers.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara. Survivors include two sons, Stephen and Dave (Terry); a daughter, Laura (Jack) Kaiser; a sister, Myrtle (Ross) Buchanan; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on June 26 at St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church, 12251 Antioch Road, Overland Park, KS 66213.
