DENVER — Susan Lintonsmith has been promoted to president and chief executive officer of Quiznos. She succeeds Katie Scherping, who has served as interim president and c.e.o. since June. Ms. Scherping, who also was the company’s chief financial officer, is leaving the company to pursue an opportunity outside the restaurant industry.
Ms. Lintonsmith joined Quiznos in 2012 as chief marketing officer and helped lead the revitalization of Quiznos marketing efforts with a greater focus on quality ingredients, menu improvements and simplification to re-energize store level growth and economics. She most recently was global chief marketing officer, where she was instrumental in opening the China market and leading the opening of Quiznos Grill, a foray into a premium sandwich in a fast-casual environment.
Before joining Quiznos, Ms. Lintonsmith was a consultant to Einstein Noah Restaurant Group, Inc. and earlier was chief marketing officer for Red Robin Gourmet Burgers. She also has held the post of vice-president and general manager of Horizon Organic at WhiteWave Foods and was a director of marketing at both Coca-Cola Co. and Pizza Hut.
She received a bachelor’s degree in marketing and psychology at the University of Notre Dame and a master’s degree in finance and marketing at Indiana University — Kelley School of Business.
“Susan has a real passion for the restaurant industry and has been a vital contributor to Quiznos successful brand evolution over the last four years,” said Doug Benham, chairman of Quiznos. “During her tenure, Susan has consistently translated menu and marketing innovation into operational value. With Quiznos 35th anniversary celebration under way, I have the utmost confidence in the future of our brand under Susan’s leadership.”
In addition to Ms. Lintonsmith’s new leadership position, Quiznos named Christina Maxwell as c.f.o. to succeed Ms. Scherping. Ms. Maxwell joined Quiznos in 2012 as senior vice-president of finance and accounting. Ms. Maxwell has more than 20 years of experience in financial analysis, strategic planning and process flow improvements.
