The glucosylated steviol glycosides in EMS95 provide enhanced taste quality and sweetness, according to GLG Life Tech.
VANCOUVER, B.C. — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued a “letter of no objection” to the Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) status of EMS95, an enzymatically modified stevia sweetener from GLG Life Tech Corp., the company said Oct. 6. The GRAS status means EMS95 is safe for use as a general purpose sweetener in such applications as dairy items, snacks, baked foods, cereal and sports nutrition products, according to GLG Life Tech.
The Vancouver-based company produces EMS95 through the enzymatic addition of glucose moieties to the original steviol glycoside structure, which results in a mix of glucosylated steviol glycosides and steviol glycosides. The glucosylated steviol glycosides provide enhanced taste quality and sweetness to products using EMS95, according to GLG Life Tech.
