BALTIMORE — H&S Bakery has completed a $15 million expansion and renovation of its Fell’s Point, Md., baking facility. H&S Bakery started the project last August, eventually adding 34,000 square feet to the facility’s west building, bringing the total square footage of the west building to 72,000 square feet and the total square footage of the entire facility to 119,000 square feet.
In addition to the expansion, H&S Bakery’s reinvestment in the facility included new equipment and upgrades to packaging and shipping operations, modernization and streamlining of current processes to ensure the facility remains functional and viable for years to come.

“It is incredibly gratifying to reinvest in a community where we have such strong roots and to see this renovation come to fruition,” said Bill Paterakis, president and chief executive officer of Northeast Foods, Inc., a sister company of H&S Bakery. “Although my father, John Paterakis Sr., is not with us to witness the project’s completion, during construction, each day he would ride around to watch with a sense of pride. Our family continues to expand on his legacy.”
John Paterakis died on Oct. 16, 2016, at the age of 87.
H&S Bakery, a Baltimore-based, family-owned company since 1943, has been a fixture in the Fell’s Point community for more than 50 years. The company also has a 57,000-square-foot east building in Fell’s Point, a waterfront community founded in the 18th century.
The Paterakis family operates five bakeries in the Baltimore region that employ approximately 1,500, with more than 300 employees based in Fell’s Point.
