WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread increased 0.7c per lb in February, while the price for whole wheat bread increased 1.1c per lb, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.
The national average retail price of white pan bread was 135.8c, up 0.7c per lb from January but down 4.9c from February 2016. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in February increased in two regions — up 1.6c in the South and up 1.4c in the Midwest — and increased in two regions — down 0.6c in the Northeast and down 0.3c in the West.
At 198.6c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was up 1.1c per lb from January and up 3.9c per lb from February 2016.
The national average price of family flour in February was 52.6c per lb, down 0.4c from January but up 0.4c from February 2016.
The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in February was 129c per lb, down 2c from January and down 1.9c from February 2016. Chocolate chip cookies were 339c per lb, down 0.7c from January but up 10.1c from February 2016. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 69.5c per lb, down 0.5c from January and down 1.2c from February 2016.
