HOUSTON — Riviana Foods said it is doubling the production capacity for its microwavable Minute rice products at its facility in Memphis, Tenn. The expansion is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2017.
The ready-to-serve rice plant was built in 2011 and integrated into Riviana’s processing and packaging plant in Memphis. The 400,000-suare-foot facility in Memphis began operations in 2010.

“Part of our requirements for the U.S. market is currently being sourced through our parent company Ebro Foods, S.A. in Spain,” said Bastiaan de Zeeuw, president and chief executive officer of Riviana. “However, due to a significant increase in demand for various Ebro companies’ ready-to-serve products in Europe as well, available production there is becoming tight, justifying an additional investment in the United States.”
Riviana currently offers 16 varieties under the Minute Ready to Serve brand, including four new offerings: organic brown rice, organic white rice, organic red quinoa, and brown rice with garlic, and white and red quinoa.
