PURCHASE, N.Y. — PepsiCo, Inc. has joined the New Plastics Economy initiative as a Core Partner. The New Plastics Economy, led by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, seeks to build a more sustainable global plastics value chain by partnering with members of industry, government, science, students and citizens.
PepsiCo previously announced goals for 100% recoverable or recyclable packaging by 2025 and to partner with organizations to increase recovery and recycling rates as part of its Performance with Purpose vision.

“PepsiCo is committed to taking aggressive action to promote sustainability within our direct operations, while also acting far beyond our own walls through collaboration with others,” said Mehmood Khan, vice-chairman and chief scientific officer of global research and development at PepsiCo. “Unlocking new packaging material innovation and increasing consumer recycling rates requires strong partnership across the public and private sectors. The New Plastics Economy initiative is an important step toward creating a more sustainable packaging ecosystem and we are delighted to be a core partner.”
Joining the New Plastics Economy is the latest step in PepsiCo’s efforts to decrease packaging waste. Other projects include the development of biodegradable film resins with Danimer Scientific, helping to found the Closed Loop Fund, which works to raise the U.S. recycling rate, and founding PepsiCo Recycling, which partners with schools and communities to boost recycling infrastructure and raise recycling awareness.
