LANGLEY, B.C. — Workers at the Langley facility of Canada Bread Company, Ltd., Etobicoke, Ont., have successfully ratified a collective bargaining agreement with company leadership, ending a lockout that began April 1. The Bakery, Confectionary, Tobacco, Workers and Grain Millers (B.C.T.G.M.) Local 468 represented 160 of the 200 employees working at the bakery in the strike.

A new four-year agreement was unanimously endorsed by the B.C.T.G.M. negotiating committee on May 23 and was successfully ratified by Canada Bread leadership on May 25. The company issued a statement saying that “all monetary and non-monetary items within the collective bargaining agreement were successfully resolved, including matters of critical importance to the long-term viability of the bakery.”

Canada Bread plans to ramp up production over the next two weeks as it gradually brings its employees back to work. The company is a subsidiary of Grupo Bimbo S.A.B. de C.V., Mexico City, and employs more than 4,200 workers across its 18 manufacturing locations.
