WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread increased 0.8c per lb in June, while the price for whole wheat bread rose 5.8c per lb, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.
The national average retail price of white pan bread was 133.5c, up 0.8c per lb from May and up 0.2c from June 2016. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in June increased in two regions — up 6.1c in the South and up 1.9c in the Northeast — and decreased in two regions — down 6.1c in the West and down 2.1c in the Midwest.
At 203.2c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was up 5.8c per lb from May and up 5.5c per lb from June 2016.
The national average price of family flour in June was 50.7c per lb, down 1c from May and down 2.2c from June 2016.
The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in June was 128.1c per lb, up 0.9c from May but down 1.1c from June 2016. Chocolate chip cookies were 357.5c per lb, up 6.9c from May and up 25.5c from June 2016. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 75.2c per lb, up 2.6c from May and up 1.8c from June 2016.
