WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread decreased 0.8c per lb in July, while the price for whole wheat bread fell 6.5c per lb, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.
The national average retail price of white pan bread was 132.7c, down 0.8c per lb from June and down 2.2c from July 2016. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in July decreased in three regions — down 3c in the Northeast, down 2.6c in the South and down 0.8c in the Midwest — and increased in one region — up 4.6c in the West.
At 196.7c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was down 6.5c per lb from June but up 0.1c per lb from July 2016.
The national average price of family flour in July was 51.2c per lb, up 0.5c from June but down 3.1c from July 2016.
The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in July was 129.4c per lb, up 1.3c from June but down 2.6c from July 2016. Chocolate chip cookies were 346.7c per lb, down 10.8c from June but up 25c from July 2016. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 76.4c per lb, up 1.2c from June and up 2.4c from July 2016.
