SNAC International will offer an Acrylamide 101 Workshop, taking place Nov. 8 in Baltimore, in response to the uptick of snacking companies failing to note the presence of acrylamide in their products, under California’s Proposition 65.
According to California’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment, Proposition 65 requires businesses to warn Californians about certain chemicals in their products that cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. The chemicals can be in products that citizens purchase or that may be released into the environment.
The workshop will include presentations on the scientific, legal and regulatory background of acrylamides along with prevention and mitigation strategies and an analysis of the current legal landscape.
Speakers include Mark Nelson, technical consultant, SNAC International; Steve Saunders, managing director, High Country Toxicology; Paul Bethke, research plant physiologist, U.S.D.A., Agricultural Research Service; and Martin Hahn, partner, Hogan Lovells.
