KANSAS CITY — Corbion employees hosted several partners in the Kansas City baking community and packaged 10,008 boxes of food for a local food bank ahead of the holiday season.
On Nov. 3, more than 140 people, including employees from Corbion’s North American regional headquarters in Lenexa, Kas., and from its distribution center in Grandview, Mo., gathered with other industry partners under a large tent in the cold November wind. Representatives from other area companies, including Sosland Publishing Company, BEMA, Flowers Foods Co., Lenexa, and Anderson Partners participated in packing the boxes full of non-perishable traditional holiday foods.
The annual fund and food drive combines Corbion employee donations and a corporate gift to purchase the food donations for Harvesters Food Bank, the area’s only Feeding America Food Bank. This year, Corbion employees raised $9,243 and Corbion donated $43,000.
“We believe the strength of Corbion’s roots in the Kansas City community contributes to our strength as a global player in the food industry,” said Andy Muller, executive vice-president, Biobased Ingredients, Corbion. “Partnering with companies and organizations passionate about feeding the world is what we do, and working with Harvesters gives us a more personal, hands-on way to do that close to home.”
Since 2011, through its support of Harvesters, Corbion has provided more than 250,000 meals to Kansas City area families in need.
“We are so grateful for our corporate partners like Corbion,” said Valerie Nicholson-Watson, president and chief executive officer of Harvesters. “Packing 10,000 holiday boxes means that hungry families in our community will be able to have a wonderful holiday meal.”
