WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corp. will introduce a lemon glazed donut this spring after the flavor beat out three other potential glazes as part of a nationwide fan vote.
The online vote, which took place Jan. 16-22, gave consumers the opportunity to pick from four flavors: blueberry, caramel, lemon and maple. Lemon came out on top, with 36% of the vote, Krispy Kreme said. Caramel received 26% of the vote, followed by blueberry at 20% and maple at 18%.
“Lemon won the vote, but we can’t glaze over the fact that the other three flavors all received a lot of support, even beyond the votes,” said Jackie Woodward, chief marketing officer for Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. “Our fans’ passion for these flavors — and others — came through loud and clear on social media. So while the polls are closed, our minds are not.”
