Change is inevitable” and “opportunity knocks” — these two well-known expressions apply to so many things for so many reasons. This month at Baking & Snack, both those sayings are proving true in a very positive way. We are pleased to announce that on June 1, Dan Malovany, former editor of Snack Food & Wholesale Baking, joined the editorial team at Baking & Snack. We are elated with this addition and all it means to our readers and our editorial products at Sosland Publishing Co. Dan brings his years of experience from his previous publication and before that at Bakery Production & Marketing magazine (now a Sosland Publishing title) to our already strong team of Laurie Gorton, Shane Whitaker, Jennifer Barnett Fox, Holly Bradley and myself.
Earlier, Dan worked for newspapers in suburban Chicago, IL; Providence, RI; Elyria, OH; Macon, GA; and Kansas City, MO. He earned bachelors and masters degrees in journalism from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL.
At Baking & Snack, Dan will have the opportunity to write in-depth about a variety of topics from ingredients and processing/packaging technologies to features about baking companies around the country and around the world. A new monthly column, “From My Perspective,” will showcase Dan’s unique views and opinions.
Along with his own stores of knowledge, Dan will have access to resources at Sosland Publishing through sister publications Baking & Snack International, Milling & Baking News, Food Business News, Baking Buyer and others, plus those of editorial colleagues and the connections fostered during the past 88 years as a family-owned publishing company specializing in the grain-based foods industry.
As part of this process, we reviewed our current offerings and our needs as a publishing company, and it is bittersweet that I also announce the appointment of Kimberlie Clyma, associate editor, Baking & Snack International, to managing editor at our sister publication Meat & Poultry. Her value to the company and its editorial efforts has not gone unnoticed, and we will miss her at Baking & Snack International. However, as former editor of Meat & Seafood Merchandising, her talents are needed to assist Joel Crews and his team at Meat & Poultry as that publication continues to grow and lead the industry with in-depth and insightful editorial knowledge. We wish her well.
In addition to Dan’s contributions to Baking & Snack, Baking & Snack International and Snack World, Dan will be working on more general efforts for the company including webinars, custom publishing pieces, seminars and other assignments. He also will be an additional strong voice in our Twitter and LinkedIn online communities. Please join me in welcoming Dan.
