WASHINGTON — The preliminary national average price received by farmers for all wheat in June was $3.80 per bu, down 53c from May and down $1.92 from $5.72 in June 2009, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Agriculture Prices report.
The average price paid for winter wheat in June was $3.66 a bu, down 55c from $4.21 in May and down $1.81 from $5.47 in June 2009. The average price paid for durum was $4.21 a bu, down 7c from May and down $2.62 from $6.83 in June 2009. Spring wheat other than durum averaged $4.67, up 6c from May but down $1.99 from $6.66 in June 2009.
The average price paid for rough rice was $13.40 a cwt, down 10c from May and down $1.30 from $14.70 in June 2009.
The June index of prices received for food grains was 133 compared with the 1990-92 base of 100, down 15% from a revised 156 in May and down 31% from 194 a year earlier.
The June index for feed grains was 148, down about 3% from a revised 152 last month and down 14% from 172 in June 2009. The average price received for corn in June was $3.38 per bu, down 10c from May and down 63c from $4.01 in June 2009. Farmers received an average of $5.50 a cwt for grain sorghum in June, down 19c from $5.69 in May and down 79c from $6.29 in June 2009. The average price paid for oats in June was $2.02 a bu, down 17c from $2.19 in May and down 35c from $2.37 in June 2009.
The index of June prices received for oil-bearing crops was 167, down slightly from a revised 168 in May and down 18% from 203 in June 2009. The national average price paid to farmers for soybeans was $9.39 a bu, down 2c from May and down $2.01 from $11.40 in June 2009.
The June index for dairy products was 121, up 4% from a revised 116 in May and up 39% from 87 in June 2009. The average price paid to farmers for manufacturing grade milk in June was $13.70 a cwt, unchanged from May and up $3.30 from $10.40 in June 2009.
The egg and poultry index was 149, up 1% from 147 in both May and June 2009. The average price paid to farmers for all eggs was 62c a dozen, down 1c from May but up 3c from June 2009.
