WASHINGTON — The preliminary national average price received by farmers for all wheat in July was $4.92 per bu, down 75c from $5.67 in June and down $2.23 from the July 2008 average of $7.15, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest
Agricultural Prices report.The national average price received for winter wheat in July was $4.78 a bu, down 64c from $5.42 in June and down $2.32 from $7.10 in July 2008.
The average price paid for durum was $8.06 a bu, up 86c from $7.20 in June but down $3.64 from $11.70 in July 2008.
The average price of spring wheat other than durum averaged $5.89 a bu, down 77c from $6.66 in June 2009 and down $3.63 from $9.52 in July 2008.
The average price received for rough rice was $14.10, down 60c from $14.70 in June and down $2.70 from $16.80 in July 2008.
The July index of prices received for food grains was 169 compared with the 1990-92 base of 100, down 12% from the revised June index of 193 and down 30% from the July 2008 index of 241.
The July index for feed grains was 149, down 13% from a revised 172 the previous month and down 34% from 226 in July 2008. The average price received for corn in July was $3.33, down 70c from $4.03 in June and down $1.92 from $5.25 in July 2008. Farmers received an average of $5.57 a cwt for grain sorghum in July, down 73c from $6.30 in June and down $3.49 from $9.06 in July 2008. The average price paid for oats in July was $2.20 a bu, down 24c from $2.44 in June and down $1.24 from $3.44 in July 2009.
The U.S.D.A. index of July prices received for oil-bearing crops was 184, down 9% from a revised 203 in June and down 23% from 239 in July 2009. The national average price paid to farmers for soybeans was $10.30, down $1.10 from $11.40 in June and down $3 from $13.30 in July 2008.
The July index for dairy products was 87, unchanged from the previous month but down 41% from 148 in July 2008. The average price paid for manufacturing grade milk in July was $10.70, unchanged from June but down $7.50 from $18.20 in July 2008.
The egg and poultry index was 145, down 1.4% from 147 in June and down 6% from 154 in July 2008. The average price paid to farmers for all eggs was 71c per dozen, down 11c from 60c in June 2008 and down 13c from 84c in July 2008.
