Derived from monk fruit, Purefruit calorie-free sweetener from BioVittoria Ltd. will be marketed and distributed globally by Tate & Lyle through a 5-year strategic partnership. The only such fruit-based sweetening ingredient, the natural monk fruit extract is about 200 times sweeter than sugar. Applications for the GRAS sweetener include cereal, confectionery and bakery products. Tate & Lyle reports making improvements in the refinement and taste of the sweetener, which enables a “sweetened with fruit extract” label claim.
