An extruder produces a spiral-shaped food product. The machine’s die port uses a number of apertures arranged in a circle around a center. At least one cutting blade rotates about the center and intermittently passes across each of the apertures during rotation. Also, slicing blades are set for individual rotation around the many apertures. The slicing blades are also arranged for continuous extension less than fully across the one aperture. The apparatus also includes a planetary coupling arrangement to facilitate reciprocating rotation between the at least one cutting blade and the plurality of slicing blades.
