INDIANAPOLIS — Omega-9 Canola and Sunflower Oils have replaced more than 340 million lbs of trans fat and 130 million lbs of saturated fat since Indianapolis-based Dow AgroSciences developed and introduced the oils into the market in 2006, the company said Feb. 25.
The company plans to ramp up annual production of the oils to 2.5 billion lbs by 2012, said David Dzisiak, commercial leader for the oils business unit for Dow AgroSciences.
"The food service industry has embraced the health concerns of their customers and is aware of how important this issue is to them," Mr. Dzisiak said. "It’s exciting to have reached such a milestone so quickly, working with restaurant owners and operators who use Omega-9 oils for the health of their customers, without sacrificing the taste of their fried items."
