SUGAR LAND, TEXAS — The Imperial Sugar Co., which earlier this month said the rebuild of its Port Wentworth, Ga., refinery was progressing "nicely," has pushed back the reopening of production of granulated bulk sugar at the facility to mid-June from late May. The company said it still expects complete restoration of the packaging capabilities by the fall of 2009.
The Port Wentworth facility, which was extensively damaged in an industrial accident in February 2008, is in the process of a reconstruction project with an estimated cost of $200 million to $220 million.
