ARLINGTON, VA. — The Food Marketing Institute has elected several new members to its board of directors.
Richard N. Jurgens, chairman, chief executive officer and president of Hy-Vee, Inc., West Des Moines, Iowa, was named chairman of the F.M.I. board. He succeeds Steven C. Smith, president and c.e.o. of K-VA-T Food Stores, Inc., d/b/a Food City, Abingdon, Va., who now becomes immediate past chairman. Mr. Jurgens has been a member of the F.M.I. board since 2005 and on the executive committee since 2007. He was F.M.I.’s chairman of the member services committee from 2007-09.
Gregory Calhoun, president and c.e.o. of Calhoun Food Markets, Inc., Montgomery, Ala., was named vice-chairman of the F.M.I. board and chairman of the public affairs committee. Mr. Calhoun has been a member of the F.M.I. board since 1993 and executive committee since 1999.
William Coyne, president and c.e.o. of Raley’s Family of Fine Stores, Sacramento, Calif., was named vice-chairman of the F.M.I. board and chairman of the finance committee. He has been on the F.M.I. board since 2003.
Ed Crenshaw, c.e.o. of Publix Super Markets, Inc., Lakeland, Fla., was elected vice-chairman of the F.M.I. board and chairman of the industry relations committee. He has been a member of the board since 2003 and a member of the executive committee since 2005.
Dave Skogen, owner and chairman of the board of Festival Foods, Onalaska, Wis., was named vice-chairman of the F.M.I. board and chairman of the member services committee. He has been a member of the F.M.I. board since 2004 and on the executive committee since 2007.
Other individuals elected to the F.M.I. board of directors included: Mark Batenic, chairman, president and c.e.o. of IGA Inc., Chicago; Rudy Dory, owner of Rudy’s Markets, inc., Bend, Ore.; Jerry Garland, president and c.e.o. of Associated Wholesale Grocers Inc., Kansas City, Kas.; and Dean Peterson, president and c.e.o. of Harmon City, Inc., West Valley City, Utah.
