MINNEAPOLIS — Certain maple and brown sugar instant oatmeal produced by Malt-O-Meal Co. and three popcorn seasonings manufactured by Kroger Co. have been recalled in connection with a possible health risk. The products were recalled last week because they contain instant non-fat dry milk or other ingredients manufactured by the Plainview Milk Products Cooperative, Plainview, Minn. Plainview is under investigation by the Food and Drug Administration for possible Salmonella contamination.
Malt-O-Meal said its products affected by the recall include single-serve packets of Maple & Brown Sugar Instant Oatmeal and Maple & Brown Sugar Instant Oatmeal packets sold in "Variety" cartons with a date code between June 30, 2009, and Oct. 28, 2010, under such brands as Cub Foods, Diamond Crystal, Fastco, Flavorite, Foodland, Good ‘n Hearty, Hearty Traditions, Hy-Top, IGA, Mom’s Best Natural, Megaroons, Millville, Our Family, Richfood, Shop ‘n Save and Smart Menu.
Cincinnati-based Kroger said it has pulled its Popcorn Seasoning Movie Theater Butter Flavored sold in 2.82-oz jars, Kroger Popcorn Seasoning White Cheddar Flavored sold in 2.82-oz jars, and Kroger Fat Free Butter Flavored Sprinkles sold in 2-oz jars.
The recalls came after F.D.A. investigators late last month found Salmonella in Plainview’s plant. The cooperative issued a voluntarily recall of instant non-fat dried milk, whey protein, fruit stabilizers and thickening agents produced over the past two years.
