Better together, a blend of a liquid prebiotic chicory root fiber and a stable probiotic results in Frutalose PRO, a low-calorie, low-sugar, clinically proven synbiotic. Development of the new ingredient came about through a strategic alliance between Sensus America and Ganeden. It is based on Sensus’ Frutalose SF75 liquid inulin fiber and Ganeden’s patented probiotic, GanedenBC30.
The combination ingredient is designed to maximize health benefits to the consumer, particularly in the areas of protein use and digestive health. Synbiotics are products that contain both prebiotic and probiotic components.
“Partnering with an industry leader such as Sensus will enable us to broaden applications of GanedenBC30 into more functional food applications,” said Andrew Lefkowitz, president of Ganeden. He cited the scientific and technical expertise of the partner company.
Carl Volz, president of Sensus America, described the alliance as a way to capitalize “on the unique opportunities and synergies that these innovative ingredients provide.”
The new ingredient offers a pre/probiotic fortification solution appropriate for many food categories, including baked foods and snacks.
In another development, Sensus announced availability of a new technical paper about inulin’s reduced glycemic response. Chicory root fiber is around 30 to 50% as sweet as sucrose and has synergy with high-intensity sweeteners. Its low glycemic response suggests applications in foods targeted at reducing the risk of obesity, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
