MOUNT AIRY, N.C. — Harvest Time Bread Co. is expanding production at its Mount Airy facility. The company purchased the bakery in March 2010, at which point it said it would invest $4.5 million to upgrade the facility and expand production.
“This investment enhances our flexibility to meet changing customer needs while accelerating our capability to introduce unique new products,” said Luis Pereira, president and chief executive officer of Harvest Time Bread, a producer of artisan bread, rolls, and whole grain products. “With additional automated equipment in Mount Airy, we will continue our focus on producing the world’s best artisan and ethnic breads, sandwich rolls, and custom food service products.”
As a result of the expansion, the company will discontinue production at its bakery in Woodbridge, N.J., but it will continue to serve northeast U.S. customers through its established logistics partner in New Jersey.
“This transition is being managed carefully to maintain our production levels and inventories,” Mr. Pereira said. “We do not anticipate our grocery and food service customers will experience any changes in deliveries.”
Mr. Pereira added the expansion of the Mount Airy bakery will provide a platform for growth.
“With modern production lines, it is our newest facility and has achieved AIB International’s Superior certification since opening in 2005,” he said.
