DALLAS — While earnings per share were up for Brinker International during the second quarter, net income was down 5%.
For the quarter ended Dec. 28, 2011, the company posted income of $35,674,000, equal to 45c per share on the common stock, which compared with $37,464,000, or 41c per share, during the same quarter of the previous year. Revenue for the quarter was $681,904,000, up 1% from $671,886,000 during the same quarter of the previous year.
“Brinker delivered another strong quarter as evidenced by a 24% increase in our e.p.s.,” said Doug Brooks, president and chief executive officer. “This marked Brinker’s fourth consecutive quarter of comp sales and traffic growth, which demonstrates the effectiveness of our strategies, the strength of our team and the receptivity of our guests to the changes we’re making to our business. We are confident we’ll deliver on our promise to double e.p.s. by 2015.”
For the six months ended Dec. 28, the company had income of $59,295,000, or 73c per share, up 1% from $58,895,000, or 61c per share, during the same period of the previous year. Revenue for the six months was $1,350,306,000, up 2% from $1,326,779,000.
