CHARLOTTE, N.C. — In a continuing effort to create a more sustainable supply chain, Snyder’s-Lance, Inc. has begun switching to cage-free eggs used for its products in which eggs are an ingredient, such as cookies, breakfast treats and other products.

“Snyder’s-Lance is committed to doing our part in ensuring a more humane and sustainable world,” said Sid Levy, director of communications and community relations for Snyder’s-Lance. “We are committed to using the highest-quality ingredients and keeping in touch with consumer concerns. While the vast majority of our snack products do not contain eggs, choosing cage-free eggs is the right thing for our company and our customers.”

In addition to switching to cage-free eggs, Snyder’s-Lance has reduced the size and thickness of its cartons, initiated more aggressive recycling projects in manufacturing facilities, and optimized its delivery system for fuel conservation. Recently the company announced the construction of a Research and Development Center in Hanover, Pa. The building will carry a LEED Silver Certification, meeting requirements of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design rating system for the construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. Additionally, the new center will receive 100% of its electricity from the company’s solar farm located nearby.
