OAK BROOK, ILL. — McDonald’s Corp. said global comparable sales increased 3.3%, or 5.5% in constant currencies, in April.
“Our focus on delivering great-tasting food and an exceptional restaurant experience generated positive global comparable sales results in April,” said Jim Skinner, chief executive officer. “Amidst a challenging global economic environment, McDonald’s ongoing commitment to optimizing the menu, modernizing the restaurant experience and broadening accessibility will enable us to continue to satisfy the evolving needs of our customers.”
U.S. comparable sales at McDonald’s were up 3.3% on everyday value, unique beverage and breakfast offerings as well as the premium chicken sandwich and Angus burger offerings.
European comparable sales increased 3.5% led by France, the U.K., Germany and Russia. The Monopoly game drove sales in Germany and the U.K., and premium food events in France and Russia also contributed.
McDonald’s said comparable sales increased 1.1% in Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa with China and other markets offsetting negative results in Japan.
