AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS – Both segments of Ahold USA reported an increase in sales for the third quarter ended Oct. 4. Stop & Shop/Giant Landover had sales of $3,981 million, up 1.9% from $3,905 million. Giant-Carlisle had sales of $1,101 million, up 0.8% from $1,092 million.
The Ahold Group, Amsterdam, in total reported third-quarter net sales of €6,040 million ($9,024 million), up 4.3% from €5,789 million ($8,649 million). Ahold delivered volume growth in all markets. Deflation and customers trading down impacted sales. Increased promotional activity continued, especially in the United States.
Through the first nine months of the fiscal year, Ahold Group reported sales of €21,124 million, up 10.8% from €19,072 in the same time period of the previous year. Within Ahold USA, nine-month sales for Stop & Shop/Giant-Landover were $13,424 million, up 2.9% from $13,052 million, and nine-month sales for Giant-Carlisle were $3,676 million, up 1.5% from $3,623 million.
