WASHINGTON — The preliminary national average price received by farmers for all wheat in April was $8.18 per bu, up 64c from $7.54 in March and up $3.77 from $4.41 in April 2010, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Agricultural Prices report.
The average price paid for winter wheat in April was $7.69 a bu, up 67c from $7.02 in March and up $3.50 from $4.19 in April 2010. The average price paid for durum was $7.64 a bu, down 51c from $8.15 in March but up $3.47 from $4.17 in April 2010. Spring wheat other than durum averaged $9.41 per bu, up $1.39 from $8.02 in March and up $4.52 from $4.89 in April 2010.
The average price paid for rough rice in April was $14 a cwt, up $1 from March but down 30c from a year earlier.
The April index of prices received for food grains was 252 compared with the 1990-92 base of 100, up 8% from 233 the previous month and up 54% from 164 in April 2010.
The April index for feed grains was 264, up 15% from 230 in March and up 78% from 148 in April 2010. The average price paid to farmers for corn was $6.40 a bu, up 87c from $5.53 in March and up $2.99 from $3.41 in April 2010. Farmers received an average of $11.80 a cwt for grain sorghum in April, up $1.20 from $10.60 in March and up $6.41 from $5.39 in April 2010. The average price paid for oats in April was $3.40 a bu, up 12c from $3.28 in March and up $1.15 from $2.25 in April 2010.
The index of April prices received for oilseeds was 230, up 1% from 228 in March and up 36% from 169 in April 2010. Farmers received an average of $12.80 a bu for soybeans in April, up 10c from $12.70 in March and up $3.33 from $9.47 in April 2010.
The April index for dairy products was 151, down 3% from 156 in March but up 35% from 112 in April 2010. The average price paid to farmers for all milk in April was $19.70 a cwt, down 70c from $20.40 in March but up $5.10 from $14.60 in April 2010.
The poultry and egg index was 158, up 5% from 150 in March and up 8% from 146 in April 2010. The average price paid to farmers for all eggs in March was $1.05 a dozen, up 20c from 85c in March and up 28c from 77c in April 2010.
