WASHINGTON — January production of edible nonfat drink milk was 152,879,000 lbs, up 2% from December and up 31% from January 2011, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Dairy Products report.
Manufacturers’ stocks of edible nonfat dry milk were 158,847,000 lbs, down 4% from December but up 63% from January 2011. January nonfat dry milk shipments were 154,239,000 lbs, up 20% from December and up 31% from January 2011.
Output of skim milk powders was 39,704,000 lbs, up 9% from December but down 1% from the previous year. Total dry whey production was 95,071,000 lbs, up 15% from December and up 4% from January 2011. Production of lactose was 87,698,000 lbs, up 2% from December and up 8% from January. Whey protein concentrate production totaled 38,358,000 lbs, down 3% from December but up 10% from January 2011. Dry buttermilk outturn was 12,679,000 lbs, up 23% from December and up 10% from January 2011.
Total manufactures’ stocks of dry whey on Jan. 31, 2012, were 49,370,000 lbs, up 8% from December and up 1% from January 2011. Total lactose stocks were 64,338,000 lbs, down 3% from December and down 19% from January 2011. Whey protein concentrate stocks totaled 42,197,000 lbs, up 1% from December and up 24% from January 2011. Dry buttermilk stocks totaled 18,388,000 lbs, up 21% from December and up 90% from January 2011.
Butter production in January 2012 was 180,591,000 lbs, up 9% from December and from January 2011.
Total cheese production was 912,332,000 lbs, down 2% from December but up 3% from January 2011.
Production of regular hard ice cream totaled 55,035,000 gallons, up 8% from December but down 2% from January 2011. Low-fat ice cream production was 28,597,000 lbs, up 15% from December and up 20% from January 2011.
